Well the motor came out to fix the TOB issue.

Engine bay got filthy from the rainy day track day, subies are suposed to get dirty right?

Also since the motor was out I took that opertunity to install my prize for winning the Subiefest autox:

And the little bastard that caused the issue:

I noticed that this little wavy spring wasn't included on my Exedy OEM replacement clutch kit:

It looks like it puts light pressure on the bearing cage and retaining ring to keep it in place. I'm pretty that it one of the reasons why the TOB was able to come out of the pressure plate was there was no preload holding the ring in place.

I also wanted to say a special thanks to the guys over at Renner Motorsports Development! They had a replacement retaining ring that they gave me, You guys rock!

Went to a meet on Sunday hosted by a subie IG page called Subiewerks555
Saw Bucky Lasek's car with its rear quarters on finally.

Bucky and WyattGM6(here on RS25)

and a couple of my car that the Subiewerks555 photographer took of my car

Subie Challenge Round 3 was yesterday at Buttonwillow (13CW)

No issues with the car this time, and I was able to save almost 6 seconds off my personal best for 13CW. My new personal best is 2:14.2 down from 2:20.0 :projectsti.com:

I have another video from Harry's Lap timer but its still very shaky. I still need to revise how i mount the phone(anyone have any ideas?)

Stopped off I-5 in the central valley, and snapped a photo.

Picked up a FHI Aerospace Carbon Strut bar with a cracked center tube on the cheap.

Was an easy fix; replacement carbon tube, a little prep work, and some aerospce structural epoxy=good to go! I was even able to transfer the decal over to the new carbon tube.

I also need to figure out were I'm gonna mount this guy on the front end as I dont really have a usable tow hook in the front(This is not good for track days and the next one is in a week!)

Back at Chuckwalla yesterday for Subie Challenge round 4!

I did beat my personal best but only by .2 sec (2:21.3 new personal best). I was hoping to do better than that but its still an improvement. I had fun, was able to drive the car home this time and met a super cool dude with a v7 swapped sonic yellow bugeye, it was nice of him to let me hang out under his ez up to stay out of the sun.

Oh and BueCar, I drilled though the frame rail and bolted the tow strap to the frame rail behind the fog cover. Super strong and i can put the fog cover back on for the street so I don't have an ugly took strap hanging out.

And of course some shots from CaliPhoto!

I decided that I want to get the weight of the car down so I have started by removing any unneeded steel bits like the glove box weight, the squares of steel bolted in the b pillars and any other steel brackets or covers that would be instead made from carbon fiber. I still havent weighted the car since the widebody. I need to do that soon for a baseline.

I refuse to strip out the interior, I have been looked at this thread for inspiration
AnorexicSTI - 05 STI Lightweight w/ "full interior" - 2660lbs - 62 lbs to 2598! - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com

Here is some progress.
Fuel tank covers:

Started making a TMIC splitter out of carbon as wel(I suppose its a block off plate at this point  :

And lastly, this past weekend I installed my defi boost gauge that I have had sitting around for like 6 months(I still need to find a oil pressure and oil temp to fill up the other two slots in my pod).

You can remove the rear trunk vents and make lighter. Carbon plate on one side, the other trim a bit if you want open. The older boys had 1 side solid while the other was the double vents.

I have thought about buying some more solid ones and putting on since I don't care to vent the race cars

You remove the drive rear tow point? Most trucks don't use it anyways.

Have you thought about donating a kidney? Have them cut the appendix out at the same time!

Back to the car. If you want to get serious, you can attach the trunk with pins and delete the latch and arms, etc. But I know you still stuff your booty so not practical probably.

Under the car on the differential T brace, you can cut the dampners off.

Putting myself on a diet would probably help too lol! I’ll start with the fat before losing vital organs

I saw those down there when I was removing some of the ebrake cable brackets. They look like a pain in the rear end to do with the brace still in the car. I have been thinking about the TSSFab T-brace and all 3 crossmembers. That is pretty expensive tho to save 50 lbs.

I was also looking at carbon fiber driveshafts, lighter and helps with driveline smoothness. I like that it’s dual purpose.

Back in the Battle of the imports era of the mid/late 90s there was some guys doing what you were talking about. dropping weight while retaining full interior.

lexan rear windows/windshield? all sound deadening (if you havent done it already)? gut the door innards? titanium fasteners?

the All motor guys did even more extreme things. i heard of a guy who shaved off all the extra threaded parts of the bolts/fasteners that were extra. I heard it was about 50 lbs worth of weight in a honda civic.

#1,635 ·
I don’t think I’ll do lexan windows as they get scratched pretty easy and UV messes it up pretty easy. As for right now I’m gonna start with the low hanging fruit and go from there. I was looking at aluminum bolts for non critical fasteners for stuff like m6 fender bolts and that kinda thing. The steel hardware does weigh a lot.

I don’t want to do anything to compromise the integerety of the car so no gutting the doors/carbon doors as I still want to drive it on the street.
