About Me:
I've been browsing this forum for a bit and finally have a reason to create a journal. My name is Jess and I purchased the RS I wanted in July 2013. I had a couple opportunities to purchase a sedan RS, but I wanted to hold out for a coupe. Being that I lived in Oregon, the prices for RS' were laughable. While waiting for the right car I went through 4 other cars. I started with a 2003 Suzuki Aerio, to a 2003 VW GTI 20th Anniversary, to a 2005 Legacy GT Limited wagon (loved that beast, but it had a busted short block) and then to a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro. This was in a span of a year and half.

About the Car:
I purchased the RS from a Subaru 'specialist' dealer in Oregon in July 2013. They had completely overhauled the engine (new parts mentioned in post #2) when I picked it up at 124,500 miles with a 5-speed manual transmission and new tires. It had some blemishes (the rust spot I somehow missed until I got home) and a broken driver's side mirror. It came with the OBX axleback and OEM subwoofer, but any other addition has been added by me. All in all, I am completely happy with my purchase.

The main plan is to keep the car N/A and focus on cosmetic and chassis/suspension/brake upgrades. There will be no 'lowlife' or flares or widebody. It'll be something of a Prodrive P1 replica. I definitely want to update and refresh all the bushings and old OE parts; it really needs it... A possible far future plan would be to purchase a wrecked 05-07 STi and do a full USDM swap, but I'm in no considerable rush to do that.

Rear screen arrived mid last week but work was so hectic I didn't open it until the weekend. I now have yards and yards of bubblewrap to fulfill all my needs. 😂 The glass came intact although very dirty. One clip was broken, but no clue whether that was from shipping or from removing off the original car. The parcel shelf is absolute garbage (to me) so it won't be used. Rear wiper brought some UK rust with it (yay) but I'll sand it down and repaint it.

Hoping to have it installed soon. I need to verify with the glass installer if he can supply all the moldings, or if I should just buy them myself. In the meantime, I had ordered a 2007 WRX wagon stalk so I have the rear wiper switch and intermittent wipers for the front. Wiring this in will be completely beyond me, so I've asked a friend to help when the time comes. There should be more than enough info on RS25 to accomplish it. I haven't sourced a washer tank just yet.. I'm not really sure I'd use it so it's not a priority.

Other than that, this weekend a bunch of friends came over and we pulled the 2.2 out of the OBS. It's leaking out of every imaginable seal and gasket so we'll get it freshened up and throw it back in. I also picked up the lower dash parts and center console from an RS part out for it. Didn't get the piece around the HVAC, but someone on here is selling one. Just waiting on shipping quote. I'm trying not to go full idiot on that car since it's not even mine.. But it's really hard because these cars are so much fun to get JDM parts for.

Small but aesthetic update, I bought the new Grimmspeed black caps for various yellow-capped items in the RS. It looks much cleaner and I like the quality of them. I'd have preferred they try and replicate the caps to OEM instead of their logo on every single one.. but oh well. Just need to replace the yellow dipstick and maybe the radiator cap and it'll be much more subtle in there.

Took some time this weekend to remove the parcel shelf in the rear and swap in the wagon wiper switch from a WRX wagon.

I've been waiting over 3 weeks for the roof moldings to come in to my local dealer. The first set that came in were broken in shipping so they had to reorder. Kudos to them.. their counter guy told me they were in so I went to the dealer to pick them up. A different counter worker told me, yes, they're here but they are broken. Did no one call you? HA... yeah, I called you guys to confirm they were there. No one said they were broken.... ANYWAY.. The whole thing is waiting on those.

Forester got the foglight bulbs replaced

I took the rear section of a bulk harness from a wagon and just chopped it up to fit the coupe, not sure how much easier that was but I didn't have any interior so it worked well for me. For some reason I still cannot get my wiper to return to the rest position, it always just stops mid sweep when I switch it off. I'm pretty sure the rear shelf cover has indents or perforations for the 3rd brake light cutout that is the same size/shape you need for the wiper. I'm interested to see how you tackle this

That’s not a bad idea actually.

I figured I’d have a friend help wire it up based on the northursalia DIY. I did order a relay off amayama and am hoping it’s correct haha. We’ll see. The install was supposed to happen two weeks ago but the installer cancelled due to personal matters and then I went out of town. Hopefully in a few weeks the glass will at least be in so I can tackle the wiring.

Damn this looks like my future....I already have a done up JDM recreation of a Forester Cross Sport/STi and I'm building my Impreza coupe (I previously had a 98 RS swapped, among many many other JDM GC's and another 00RS I should have never sold) and you have Prodrive P1 seats like me...and I have a rear windscreen with wiper assembly like yourself haha! I bet you must have bought it from Peter Bell as well....Just wish I had the silly interior wiper motor cover as they're no longer available and need to find a cover eventually. Damn fine builds!

Y'know, I've come across quite a few GC owners with SGs as well haha. It's the perfect duo!

I did buy the rear screen from Peter. I've purchased from him once before and it was painless.. didn't stop me from worrying about the glass breaking LOL. Sadly haven't gotten it installed yet.. Hopefully sooner than later so I can put my interior back together. I did buy a new relay and another wiper part off Amayama.. are the covers for sure NLA? I have a friend that can probably 3D print the one I have..

Yeeeeeees!! I'm back from the dead just in time to see some goodness, I'm so stoked that you finally got the glass, Bast!! 🥳💃🏻🙌🏾🔥 Rear-wiper-da-m/f-world..!!! 🌎🎊🤙🏾🕺🏾💗
Glad to see you back! I've been lowkey wanting the glass for so long lol.

Thanks! 🥳 Yea i remember rooting for you to get the glass a long time ago 😅 i know you had your priorities at the time, but I'm glad to see it made its way you your build 🎊 as a hatch lover, i always find rear wipers functional, and the trend is people removing them.. 😑 to each their own, of course, but i always found it awkward that the trend was to remove a functional piece of equipment. (Even more annoying, i recently picked up a hatchback that had one removed 🤬😮‍💨 I'll remedy that, though..! 🙏🏾🔥💃🏻🕺🏾) I find it even more admirable when people go through the motions to add them on our vehicles that didn't come factory-equipped in our market 💔😭
Sorry for the rant lol, but looking forward to your progression on this (& the build in general..!) 👊🏾🤙🏾🙌🏾 I'll eventually get back to my build & posts on here soon, too.. just waiting on a few factors 🤞🏾

You're not wrong, the intermittent wiper is amazing. I'm glad I did it way back when, as it was a godsend in Oregon/Washington. I had almost given up on the rear glass "upgrade" but I'm glad Peter still finds some kicking around.

Finally got the wiper installed! Happy to have it in and half finished (still need to do the wiring). I wasn't pleased with the quality of work by the glass installer, but such is life. They didn't order the rear moldings like they said they would, they scratched up the paint on the c pillars and they left a huge mess inside the car with old glue/sealant. I think the scratches can be buffed out, the sealant vacuumed and I'll order a new rear top molding and get that swapped out.

I'm going to run some wiring through the interior before I button it back up just so it's there when I get to that part. I don't want to have to pull it apart again lol.

I spoke with a friend on this actually. He said the clips need to be installed when replacing the glass and sealant so it’s centered, but you can still unclip the moldings and swap them out. This isn’t high on my list cause it’s too cold.. but we’ll find out come spring/summer.

#1,933 ·
Oh yeah, that's correct. My clips were just all broken because I ripped it off like a gorilla opening a can of mtn dew amp on his lunch break so he can get through the second half of his shift at the tire factory. Removing it with care and keeping the clips intact is advisable

I love it haha. The reactions from other drivers is hilarious too.
The more I look at your thread...makes me want to make a P1 rep since I have it all but the damn upper half wing (HT Auto Design, UK) sells the upper half of a P1/22B high-bred wing but the end caps don't say P1 so I'd have to make a mold and make my own.
Do it! We need more P1 reps rolling around haha
What a shame about the glass install. Hopefully nothing too awful that can't be fixed up. Looking great as always. It's so awesome to still see this one in your hands. I don't see people hanging onto cars like that very often so it's always endearing to see when it's not a passing thing. This one is YOURS!
It was, but what can you do. I did almost sell it a couple years ago to wipe out my debts... but I couldn't handle the thought of not having it. It's really irreplaceable at this point.

Hellllooo, I keep forgetting to update. It snowed nicely back in February. Took it around the block for funsies.

Took the tint off. I'll regret it come full summer.. but I do still have AC equipped.

I've been having fuel smell issues in the cabin for the last few months, but it's been intermittent. I had a CEL pop up awhile back for the vent valve on the canister, so I replaced it. Still stank. Opted to replace the canister too with one off RockAuto, which was Subaru stamped.

It fixed the issue for like, 2 weeks haha. I drove it a few different trips for at least an hour each and varying elevations. Thought it was totally good to go until today. I couldn't smell any fuel from the engine bay, the back seat/fuel pump, and the gas cap didn't hiss when opening it. It did however, smell RIPE at the passenger rear wheel well. Popped it up and checked out the filler neck. It was heavily clogged with dirt and the valve on the neck looks questionable. Got parts on order for the filler neck (cause why not), valve and relative hoses. Only the best for the favorite child.

The dampness is just cleaning spray, not fuel.
