I got the car back last Friday. I drove it around that night, noticed the valves were super clacky on cold start. Okay, break in period whatever.. they quieted down eventually. Saturday morning checked all the fluids and started it up. Again, the valves made themselves known but then stopped.
I did have a CEL so I went around town trying to find somewhere with a code reader. Got turned away from a dealer because "we don't diagnose on weekends, but cool car". AutoZone could, but didn't have any readers in the store, so I drove back across town to a car buddy. I had P0303 and P0304.
Started driving back home and I noticed a distinct chirping noise. It eventually got louder and louder, then pop, then some nasty squealing and a bit of smoke at a red light. Popped the hood, no smoke billowing anywhere, no leaks, no drips.. nothing. Just that god awful squealing. Had the car towed back to work in shame.. thinking I destroyed my motor within 24 hours
Turns out the squealing was from a rock getting lodged in a pulley. Phew! But, my coworker is now concerned about the valves. They're super loud not only at cold start, but at temp while driving and idling.
Maybe a lubrication issue, maybe a wrist pin.. I don't know. But my car has now been stuck sitting with a bunch of broken Audis and it makes me sad. The company I got the motor from said to cycle through the spark plug wires and see what we find.. but we already narrowed it down to #4. Waiting on my coworker to have time to dig into at this point.
