Custom OEM X-Brace!
Probably doesn't do much, but hey, it was free for me. Inspired from this thread: Build rear x-brace off oem cross brace?
Okay here are my build pics.
Tools: 12mm sockets and wrench
All hardware needed - oem bolts, 4 matching nuts, 2 washers
Ok, trying to give as much detail as possible. The holes on the bars are different on each side. One side has holes, the other has slots.
In order to fit, you have to file the holes. I used a circular file...remember to file outwards and not in like I did at first
So the holes used are these
Bottom - use bottom most hole
REMEMBER: Have the first bar 'dip' into the trunk so the second bar on top fits the opposite way.
Now behind the lower hole tab is another plate with the nut for where the bar is supposed to go. This prevents you from using a washer. Since the hols is smaller than the top one we will use, it's not too bad. Also, the flared nut will help you crush the lip on the back panel. Here is a pic..
You can see the lip you have to crush by tightening
Bolt in the top, I put the washer and then nut on the back. That was a fun time and a half with fat fingers...
So we are half done
I did not tighten the bolts yet. I left them loose for fitting the other bar. Then I tightened them all.
Second bar in place
from the trunk
They do touch
My driveway is steep, and my window shifts all the time. So if this does anything, ill hear the back end creak more. I shall drive tomorrow...i might put some more goodies on first then take some shots for the first page. I did something last weekend I have to post too...
