So i guess i will start with a little history of me and subarus. the first car i ever remember riding in was an 82 gl in grey. we had to get rid of that car cause of me. :( then about the time i was 12 or so my parents got subaru number 2 which is a 91 legacy that my mom still drives today. during high school i learned how to drive on the 91 and really liked the car. but much to my dismay my parents made me buy my first car which wasn't a suby :( the fall of 07 i started looking for a nice car i had not liked any of mine that i had owned before. The one thing i knew was i liked turbos and knew a bit about them. so i set out to look for a wrx taking three months to find her. I found a nice little silver wagon that was a 04 no wreck history and a nice young lady owned it. i got the first loan i could and bought the car sadly two months later a drunk driver was speeding up my street behind me and went to pass me as i was turning into the driveway totaling both car instantly. i was heart broken and didn't want to touch another suby for a long time. after a year away from the car scene i started looking at older imprezas and found i would really like a 99 rs in of course a two door. so i was talking to one of my managers at work and she said she had one that had some bad history. no wrecks but someone was going to pay them off for the car and never did so they still had the title. i blew it off thinking ya she was full of it. then one day she came in and said hey i got the car on yesterday are you interested i said yes. when i saw it was a 99 rbp rs i feel in love, then i found her down falls the engine had a rod out the block and the trans was toast,it was a 4eat. i told her i would give her a thousand dollars for it. she took it and i got my dream 99 rs. i got the car home much to my parents dismay again and pulled the engine. it was destroyed the heads were bad the only parts i could use was the intake and exhaust :( i grabbed the first short block i could find which was a ej22 n/a motor and got some 2.5 rs heads on it put it together and tried driving it. i failed i forgot to tighten a cam gear and it broke :( thinking i just ruined a head i just bought i took the motor back apart and found i got lucky on the head it was fine so i pulled everything trans and motor. i wanted a turbo from the start so i started buying turbo parts for the car as i worked my way up to getting the engine done i found a ej22t out of a 93 legacy . i had a shop build the short block and i ordered a wrx 5 speed trans :) i finally got the car together a month back and have been driving it the last month. i am so glad i have stayed with subarus after all this time

The build sounds good only thing I saw wrong was the Delta 2000 grind cams. I thought I read somewhere that they make piss poor power on boost. Unless I'm mistaken, I thought I saw that Delta can do a turbo grind on the N/A cams may want to talk with Delta on the best option of cams for the turbo build.

Also instead of an 18G why not get a 16G or the HTA68 which is the hybrid of a 16G and 18G or something like that.

yes the delta 2000 will be wrong they have the right lift but too much overlap so delta does a 1500 grind that doesn't have as much over lap. i did talk to delta about it but i need to get my short block done first. I am going with a td-06 cause i want to run higher base compression to give me better response off idle low and a better spool on the low end. i like spooling up under 2500 rpm:D

How are you getting a TD06 to spool under 2500 rpm? unless your doing anti-lag system.

9.5:1 comp ratio and the bigger cams will help thats the spool range i am looking for my td-04 i got to start spooling at 1800 a few time but was never consistent i could hit full boost before 2500 most times in it. it pulled like a v8 you never noticed the boost hit it just went its the way i like my cars to run smooth and fast

Yeah I can see a TD-04 spooling at low RPMs but the TD-04 never holds all the way to redline. A TD06 is massive compared to a TD-04 I don't see a TD06 spooling that low on compression ratio and cams alone. Like I said if you want no lag with a turbo you need anti-lag system.

You either get low end power on smaller turbos but nothing more than around 300 WHP or you get a large laggy turbo and 350+ WHP.

Look into the Blouch Dominator 1.5 XT-R if you want big power and faster spool up. Top Speed did a great test on the 1.5 XT-R with the 10cm hot side.

I would say spend more time researching other peoples builds and turbos and how to help spool rather than throwing things together and think they will work the way you want it.

I'm not giving you shit for the way you do things. I'm mainly talking about the stuff you say you want a TD06 to do. I've never seen a TD06 do what you're saying you want it to do. I'm just saying before you post about having a TD06 spooling around 2500 RPMs maybe do some looking around at other TD06 builds since you like fast spooling turbos. Your build is your build and I'm just saying a TD06 with a stock like setup will not spool at 2500 RPMs unless you do anti-lag.

ok trying to wrap this around my head said turbo above hits full boost at about 3500rpm on a 2.0L standard compression. stock 2.5L guys say they can get it to be at full boost before 3000rpm now raising the compression up to where i want to be should get me close to that 2000rpm mark i am looking for should it not. oh and renagade i don't throw stuff together my last motor had more than a thousand hours of research into it. Just found out the guy i chose to build the block has failed at building his last 4 motors one of which is mine, he had a great record before these four but he must be getting too old to do the job or something.

#147 ·
I never said you physically threw things together and made up the results. I just stated that you were talking about raising compression and cams and whatever else. Such as in this post about lowering where full boost will hit on the rpm scale. Like I said before look for someone with a similar setup that you want to run and question them on where they hit full boost and everything.

renegade the reason i haven't done what you said to do is there aren't many people out there that go my route. most people like big numbers and crappy power bands i am more into it being smooth and linear. like a 2.7 tt s4 so smooth you don't really notice its turbo-charged.

guess it time for me to finally give in. i a m going with a swap for the ease of a bunch of parts. so almost every part engine and drivetrain i have is up for grabs the td04 trans, diff downpipe intake heads all up for grabs. i am keeping my sti intercooler and my intake hoses and main harness.
