Ive had my 2005 rs for about 1 month now. After the first 2 weeks and about 1000 mi, I figured I had better check the oil.(Hadnt even opened the hood at that point). At any rate its a good thing I did the oil wasnt even registering on the dip stick. It obviously came from the dealership that way.Turns out it was only about 1 quart or so low,but I deceided not to take any chances,I had all the fluid levels checked, tranny especially,my last new car came from the dealership with 1 1\2 pints to much tranny fluid; would have blown the seals to much pressure.Went with my favorite oil castrol 10/40 synth blend, its done me right for many years. Happy Turkey Day to all....Cap

The first oil change I've seen was kind of sad for my friend's 06 STi.
He took it to the Subaru dealership for a free oil change. It took them mechanics or whoever that does the cleaning and the oil changing 2 hours. Once my friend got into the car and drove it around. He notice that he has loss some power and torque. He then calls back and ask the Subaru dealership guys what they did to his car. They said that it was probably the process of how he break in the motor and other BS.
I'm not sure if it's that or they gave it standard oil or some sort (I don't own a new STi).
He told me that right after he purchased a brand new STi he started racing these ricers and other cars as well.
Yeah... I have a bit of a problem. I got my '05 RS 2 weeks ago with 37 miles on it and I've been driving kinda hard. I've got 700 miles on it now. Not REALLY hard, I've raced three times up to 70 mph... Is there anything I can do to save my car now? I'm really worried about that scenario where I lose power at my first oil change. Also, does anyone know if a cold air intake void my warranty? I'm worried about that too... I wanted to know if I should put my stock box back on.
What is going to happen to my car and what can I do to maybe fix or preempt my problems?
Ok. I'm still worried, but I need to add a little detail. I have NEVER overheated the engine, nor have I ever had the temp rise above the half way mark. I was reading an earlier post on how you can't let your engine overheat because overheating is the cause of bad break-ins. I guess this is good news, but I dare ask... is this true?
Also, does anyone know if a cold air intake void my warranty? I'm worried about that too... I wanted to know if I should put my stock box back on.
The only reason something will "void your warranty" is if there is a problem, and Subaru can trace it back to that one aftermarket part. And then it only voids the warranty for that one part that was broken.
BUT if you take your car home, change your car back to the stock parts "that caused the thing to break" Then take it back in.... its stock now isnt it. So obsiouly the subaru part caused it. And now you have a warranty. And if your worried about it, take it to a different subaru place the next time.
