I'm moving to a state that requires a front license plate. Does anyone have any advice on a good way to attach the plate to the bumper? I'd like to avoid scuffing up the paint if possible. I have an 01 with a fairly new paint job. I'll try to attach a photo. Thanks in advance.
Umm...isn't that rectangular area in the center of the bumper cover with the 2 holes there for mounting the license plate. Looks like all you need are a set of self-tapping screws if those marks are not already holes.
I went with one of those cheap ebay plate holder that angles the face looking downward. I feel it's better than how it is normally mounted blocking the air flow to the radiator/fmic.
Some like to mount it covering one of the fog lights. Guess that's okay if you have fog covers but I like to use my dog lights time to time.
Some put it inside the cabin displayed on the dashboard so cops can see it through the windshield. I don't like that either because it blocks some of the view and I feel it's dangerous if an accident happens.
I'll follow on 6DemonBag's comment. Most cars, including the Impreza, have a provision for mounting a license plate on the front bumper or just below it. Using the two pre-drilled holes, secure the new plate in a plastic plate frame (to minimize scratches) and mount the framed plate to the bumper.
Plate frames are readily available at auto parts stores like AutoZone or PepBoys or at Amazon. Good luck.
Thank you everyone for the replies. I purchased a frame and mounting kit that includes spacers for holding the plate away from the bumper. Unfortunately, my move is taking longer than I’d hoped, so the frame is hanging out in the trunk until I need it.
