| 1.8L | I have a 1999 RS 2.2 frankin car. I know what your thinking 2.2 . Yes the car is a 1999 rs 2.5 with a 2.2 swaped into it. I keep it short and just say that i got riped off buy the dealer a long time ago. I am trying to sell the car right know but thats not going well. So im stuck with it. The problem is that i have a mass air flow cel on. The suprise is that there is no MAF wires in the harness. The car runs but gets really bad gas millage and is a little rougher then it should be. Wondering what might be the cheapest way to fix this car. I was thinking maybe a after market ecu but let me know if anyone has any other ideas. The Car. 1999 subaru impreza 2.5 rs( now a 2.2) 89000ish miles. automatic |

| I believe that car was MAP instead of MAF, as in using a barometric pressure sensor that reads off the intake manifold. Is you air filter box near the fender or right behind the throttle body on the intake manifold? Could you take an underhood picture, put it on photobucket and show it to us?

| 2.5L RS-T | Look for a MAF plug near the passenger fender. The stock airbox should have the MAF sensor bolted to it. They may have changed the engine harness with the motor and left it alone. Put a MAF sensor into the intake tract and plug it in.....if your harnessdoesn't have the plug for it....you need a 99RS engine harness.

| This is wierd, but a 2.5l DOHC ECU should run a PI 2.2l sohc no problem, & a 2.5l sohc ECU should run a PII 2.2 no problem. I wonder if they mixed up the phases of motor vs ECU? |

The 2 engines in question are both MAF based. There should be a plug on the engine harness.....

& Not sure if he stated what year 2.2 is in the car but Phase II 2.2's are MAP - I know because I have one with a EVO III 16G (straight off a EVO III swap) & Methanol injection. I wonder if someone sorta merged harnesses for a MAP car in his if the MAF plug is gone... Last edited by susiemk; 06-22-2009 at 11:11 AM..
