| 1.8L | ![]() I saw one of these in Advance Auto earlier today while looking at thier Deka ETX12 battery which is 8'lbs....however this battery is only 4 inches long and 3 inches tall, and in my hand weighs around the same as a baseball. The model number is "4LBS" which is funny because that is the model number, not the weight, it must weigh under 2 pounds. I found one online for only $25 which is a steal because it was $60 at Advance Auto. My question is, it is rated at 40cca (Cold Crank Amps) and I wanted to know if this is capeable of turning over the car. I drive a 1999 Impreza 2.5 RS. Now I know people have used the Deka ETX12 in their car with no problems, and that is rated at 180cca. So if anyone knows the answer, "what is the general required amount of cca to start (turn over) a impreza?" (Preferably a 1999 N/A) I live in Florida and its usually around 80-98 Degrees outside and around 77 or so at night. The coldest days are usually around 60 day and 40 night. I have more pictures of the size which ill post as soon as they send from my phone. You can pop one of these suckers in your back pocket easily. -Dash |

| 520cca is what oem spec is iirc you "might" could start it with less but it will kill your starter next time i get a chance i actually have a device that can measure the amps it takes to start the vehicle.... we use it to check batteries, alternators, starters at work ive got an optima redtop in my car that is rated at 800 but tests around 1600.... I have 3 redtops now and at $40 a pop i couldnt pass them up Last edited by President_Douche; 06-11-2009 at 08:44 PM.. |

| If you like your car and dont want to have problems down the road, by a lightweight battery that is meant for the car. Look up Braille Battery.

| That's not something I would try. If it does work, you'll go through batteries like mad. Those things only last for about a year or two in quads/motorcycles. Look at it this way: A lot of utility quads have pull starters in case your battery dies. Now, think about how hard it would be if you had a pull starter on a car. The amount of power it would take for this battery to successfully engage the starter and turn over the engine, would most likely kill it in a matter of weeks if not days.

| No, it won't work. Not only is it extremely unlikely that it'll even turn over your motor (an unloaded subaru starter on my test bench pulls 100amps initially, dropping to 50amps) but even if it does start your motor, motorcycle batteries are VERY low charging (2-10amps). If you throw your 70amp alternator at it, it runs a very good chance of boiling over and really ruining your day.

| 1.8L | ....I kinda feel its worth the try at $25 bucks lol. Is there any harm in trying it? I dont think so, so long as I dont keep attempting to push the starter...assuming it doesnt magically start on the first try lol. Now Braille's batteries are manufactured by Deka I believe and is the exact same battery as the Deka ETX12....I believe there is a slight increase in cca on the Braille but some dudes on Nasioc have been using them for over a year with no problems. ....Im just trying to push the envelope. =) |
