Default Two Green Connectors and a Flashing CEL?

Alright, I have a 2000 Impreza RS. So I was looking under my steering wheel the other day, at all the wiring and connectors near the cruise control module and such, and I noticed a green female and male 2-prong connector that looked to me like it was unattached. So I figure I reconnect them because I thought they might have come loose. I connect them, and turn on the car, and I get a flashing CEL. I'm not misfiring or anything; everything seems fine. So I unplug the connector, and I have no CEL anymore.

What is this connector? If it helps you guys, my cruise control doesn't work. Is this a cruise control connector? Here are some pics:

Any idea what it is and why I would have a flashing CEL when I plug it in?

haha!! Awesome!
This is one of my favorites!!!
You'll find plenty of threads about those connectors.

In short, unplug them!
They are diagnostics connectors. Used to put your ECU into a special diagnostics mode.
That's why your CEL is flashing.

It's funny, but not common enough for a sticky IMO.
Any form of search for "green connector" should turn up plenty of info

If you think about it, it's sort of stupid for them to just leave them hang there. 99% of people are going to think they're supposed to be plugged in.
