No, but there are several changes to the engine that would necessitate slightly different ecu software...AVCS and drive-by-wire for example. I'm aware of the constant reflashes on the RX-8 and they are possible because the engine has never been altered since the car came out.

Considering that I wont be buying a piggyback any time soon, you think this is something i can bring up with a dealer and ask them to do? Cuz my car does run pig rich, judging from the a/f on my dyno pull. And whether or not that leaning it out would make more power or not, I'd look into it for the sake of prolonging my O2 sensors.

Call SOA and give them your VIN and see if there's an outstanding service bulletin regarding your car. If it's been done, then there's nothing to be done. Subaru's do run very rich, even with the reflash.
