One of my other cars:

360,000km over the course of 30 years and still on the original motor and trans.

What was that about reliability?

I can and will. Take the Cobalt SS for example. Great machine, narrowly outperformed the STi when Car and Driver tested it. You ever see the interior? It's a cheap piece of crap. Chintzy, even. It's like they just gave up. Now, I'm not saying that it should look like a sixty thousand dollar luxury car inside, but any effort at all to give the interior any kind of character or class would have been nice. Some sort of finishing touches that would set it apart in any way.

Regardless of the actual build quality of the cars, as I'm sure by this point all big manufacturers use pretty much the same manufacturing processes across the board, the designers for the Big 3 just don't seem to give a fuck, and it shows.

yep, definitely preference. Ive owned 3 V8's(2 F bodies, and 1 '67 Camaro RS with a mildly built 327....got 2 more in the family), all had exhaust work, and to be honest, I prefer the sound of my catless WRX over all 3. They have such a mean, unique sound. Plus, since I'm from the south, and V8's with exhaust are a dime a dozen, it's cool to put a puzzled look on a redneck's face.

i dont know where the "domestics cant handle" stuff comes from. one of the V8's I owned was an '87 Firebird Formula with the WS6 handling package. That thing would flat outhandle both of the Subies Ive owned, and both have/had some suspension work done......and this was an '87 model.

My 79 TA handles better than my stock legacy SS or stock 2.5RS

People who rattle off all the tired old 'domestics can't handle' and 'domestics don't last' have never had any experience past learning to drive in their dad's old ford taurus.

true. even the 120,000 dollar corvette zr1 uses the same steering wheel as the cobalt haha...that's a fail where i come from. as for the others on here saying "well u don't know because you haven't ever driven good domestics", i have driven a 69 chevelle ss, el camino, chevy nova, mustang(old and new), 72 corvette stingray, 87 cavalier(engine had 450,000 miles on it), 94 dodge intrepid(went through 3 transmissions), among hundreds of other domestics.

I am not questioning the 60's and 70's models have reliable engines, i am saying that after that, american car companies didn't give a shit. Is the LS1 from the 60's or 70's? NO. so why is anybody even talking about the older domestics? the muscle car era was awesome and still is, but times change and the muscle car era has been long over. people need to realize the difference between a muscle car and the shit that is out now.

Since when do miles per year matter?

If anything, lower miles per year is more stressful on a car. Cars don't like to sit.

You seem pretty uneducated. Hows that working out for you?

Had you daily driven that car for the past 30 years, chances are something would have gone sooner rather than later.

If i was uneducated, would i have been able to do the simple math to figure out that the "reliable domestic" that you threw out there was barely ever driven? I'm glad that Tslak understands what I am saying and I would have thought that an "educated" person like yourself would have understood my point also....guess not
