New to Subaru motors but not motor building. How square are the 2.2-2.5 motors? Hondas rev by design. Short rods and great rod ratios.

Oversquare, but it varies a bit because 2.2 - 2.5 covers a broad number of EJ engines, turbo and NA.

This thread is a little silly, if you want to grenade your motor at 10,000 RPM, you own the wrong vehicle. Buy an AE86 or better yet any modern Japanese motorcycle.

By the time you've taken the heads off it's nothing to take the shortblock out anyway, I've done it by myself without a hoist before. Weighs about 90lbs
Good to know for the future.

If you want to rev, the 3.3 h6 is probably the way to go.
It enjoys making more power as the revs increase, even on stock cams.

But you'd be better off doing a turbo swap if you are asking how to spin an na ej to 8k+

Building up an NA H6 would be amazing to do. But I feel like finding parts for it would be quite a PITA, mostly because its not nearly as common as a 2.5 or 2.0.
