| Well, after being a member of this site for almost 2 years, i decided to go ahead and make a journal...... My love for subaru began way back when the video game Gran Turismo came out..... I used to beat all my friends in that game, and I always used to pick something subaru. One day I MUST own one! Fast forward about 9 years to april 2007. Broke, as usual, my boss (I work at a used car dealer) brought home from the auction a slightly humble 1999 impreza 2.5 RS in Silverthorn metallic, with 150,000 on the clock. It was the car I had to have, and I sure had to pull some strings to get it, but finally it was mine, for the price of $3500 here it is the day i bought it ![]() it stayed stock for a while, but eventually i couldn't stop myself. First thing to go was the stock stereo, for an Alpine head unit and 4 component speakers. The exhaust was next..... first was an Xelerator muffler welded to stock piping with a no name chrome tip which after not too long was replaced with an H&S scoobysport axleback for an 02 + and a WRX midpipe. Thats about as far as I went on mechanical mods for quite some time.Body work: My car had its fair share of problems with bodywork when I bought it. Rust holes in the rear quarter panels, one side skirt with no metal under it and rust bubbling around the rear spoiler mounts, the windshield, the bottom of one fender, and along the rub strip on the left quarter panel. The right door and quarter panel had their fair share of dents, as well as the front edge of the hood had been bent, then looks like it had been pulled out by a pair of pliers. I had a bra over the hood for the first year, as well as primer on the rear quarters where I patched the rust holes. I also painted my stock rims gold. I am disappointed that I don't have any pictures of this stage in my car's lifeIn February 2008, I decided it was time to get some paint work done. With the help of another member for color inspiration (ImprezaL2345) I had my car painted Storm Titanium, a color code pulled from a 2006 Lotus Elise. I also installed fog light covers , a pink grille emblem, amber corner lights, and a replica V6 front lip, as well as had my side skirts color matched. what it looked like when I got it back ![]() After a while, I decided that cold was DEFINITELY not a good color for my wheels with the new paint job, so they got resprayed with a coat of semigloss gunmetal. Also about that time, I installed a borla header and a no name 3" catback from ebay, as well as a WRX 17mm rear sway bar, and some brakemotive cross-drilled rotors...... ![]() ![]() It took about 2 months before I got sick of the noise and the loss of torque, so i went back to the H&S muffler and WRX midpipe, but exhaust will never rest at the hands of me..... Before too long I changed it again, and as it sits now, borla header, custom track pipe(catless) and 2.25" mid pipe with a 24" resonator, coupled to the H&S muffler. Also about that time, I stumbled across a whole roll of 4 gauge wire at work, so I decided to try a DIY grounding kit... what a difference!!!! Car is much smoother now! At 165,000 miles, my clutch gave out. Thanks to Gripforce Clutches out of California, I got myself an OEM replacement Exedy clutch for just over $150 shipped to my door! I was quite frightened at the idea of tackling the job, but I found out it was absolute cake to do. It took me about 3.5 hours to do the whole job in my driveway. When I pulled the old clutch out, I looked it over and found that it was an original subaru clutch, and the disc and flywheel were mint! The pressure plate was the part that went bad... 165,000 miles isn't bad for a clutch! In September 2008, I heard rumor of SCCA holding an autocross event near my hometown, so I decided to give it a shot. I embarrassed myself a little, but i had fun in the process, and learned a little about car control too. Sadly, only one picture from the whole day came out..... ![]() Next up, i decided to mod a few more things on the car. I added a pair of 2003 WRX front seats, my stock driver's seat was torn to shreds. I also bought a pair of JDM rear spats from a member, had them painted and put them on. I did the DIY headlight blackout, as well as smoked my tail lights... The car is looking super sexy, although i dont have any good pictures of it in it's present state ![]() this picture was actually of the ice on the tree, but you can almost see my smoked tail lights ![]() Springtime Mods: As soon as the weather breaks, I have a set of Tien S springs for my car, that I bought from a member here I'm going to put in, but i need some upgraded struts first.... I'm thinking AGX's. I also have a brand spankin new set of BF Goodrich G-Force KDW's in 225/45/16 to go on too with my lowering kit, but for now I have to be patient with the weather.

| The new year: 2009 Most people start off their new year with some sort of resolution, like losing weight, getting a new job, or hobby, or whatever.... Not me. Welcome the newest member of subaru owners anonymous. "Hi, my name is Ian, and I have a problem." I started my new year with a new subaru! We got a trade in at work that needed a new home, so i gladly adopted. It's a 1998 legacy 2.5GT wagon. I bought it for $500 with a thrown timing belt and 2 broken cam gears.... 248,000 miles on the odometer, 5 speed. I have a growing collection of subaru parts on hand, so i had planned on an engine teardown and rebuild..... ![]() I lost a bet on this one, I was sure it was gonna have bent valves, but one of the mechanics at work bet me that i could put a belt on it and it would run...... I figured I had to buy all the parts anyways, so I would try it...... needless to say, he was right! Not out of the woods yet, though. I test drove the car after belt replacement, and the clutch was slipping So again with a call to Gripforce, and another clutch job. So for a total of $850 and a few hours labor, I now have my very own pimp wagon! It will give me something to drive while I do some work on my RS, which has developed an oil leak from a camshaft seal![]() I have been trying to come up with some mods for the legacy that will keep costs down, but I'm not sure what to do yet.... I know it looks sick with black wheels, and I'd like to smoke the tails and tint the windows, too. More updates to come..... as soon as the weather lets me. ![]()

| I got the plow truck stuck at work today snowplowing our parts yard...... and I pulled it out with my legacy! Subaru=FTMFW .... and behind out used car lot, theres a huge gravelly (is that a word?) bank that leads up to an abandoned set of trolley tracks, a guy i work with made it about 3/4 of the way up with his 4x4 chevy truck with a 6" lift and 36" tires, and i made it all the way up with the legacy, and did donuts at the top, lol. (theres about 12-16" of snow on the ground here)
