I bought my first car on July 18, 2011 after looking for an RS for about a year. My mom actually found it and as soon as i found it and saw that it was blue i had to have it. It was 2 hours away from where I lived and i didn't have my license so my Dad and I had to trailer it home. Here is what it looked like when i got it:

They look small compared to stock but thats a sheet vs. tube argument. These should take a considerable amount of force to bend especially with my design being free of bends to start with. It limits my wheel options to lower offsets but that's going to be necessary to clear a proper tire.

With the triangle gussets on both the top and the bottom I don't think I'll run into any issues. After what you guys said I went and added the bottom ones. Ill snag some pics after class.

Edit: Ben if you're lurking, ive got some cage ideas for you to check out

Refined version. Baseplate design is still on the table as well as the roof bars. For the main hoop to strut tower, ive never seen anything between them but I feel like something should go in between them.

was on travel so response was delayed but i sent your first picture to a buddy and got some feedback, looks like you covered a lot of it. my only input was that there were some welded bars that looked like they could just be bent, but i presume youre thinking about construction.

overall he liked it and hes pretty anal and happy to be critical so thats a real good start --

top driver door bar: make the bend at the node at the mid point and not back at the taco. I would also try to take the point outward... away from the driver so that way an impact would push forward and backward as it compressed in toward the driver so the force coming toward the driver would not just need to beat that bar, it would also need to overcome the firewall and rear bulkhead

also that door bar: I would terminate it on the front down tube itself. some folks are even doing two layers of bars.

top bar that goes across the top of the windshield: I would make it one piece with less of a bend and then have a bar that braces (its almost like two braces sharing a bar as it is?)

he also pointed out this new **** called Docol R8. they used it on the most recent cage and said it was ****ing great, easy to weld. very strong, much harder than stainless (ie to bend) and lighter (so can order thinner tube). and one of the only places you can get it is indianapolis, let me know if you want the contact.

For sure, shoot me a message on fb.

Windshields are out. No breaks, cracks or scratches and not a dime out of my pocket. All it took was a warmed .035 mig wire and a bit of elbow grease.

Lots of the rust looking stuff is dirt and dust, but yeah if I had one id be using it lol.

As for wiring, right now the plan is Megasquirt, there universal harness, and I'm going to do all the rest from scratch. Dash and cluster will be a tablet communicating with everything via Bluetooth relays.

And did some more prep work for the cage. Im already sick of rust and sound deadening.

And after 5 years of ownership I finally figured out where my trunk was leaking from.
