Got any specific product recommendations for the degreaser, rust inhibitor, primer and paint? Would the dealer be the best place to get the right color-code paint, or would I get overcharged on that too?
degreaser: Meguiar's super degreaser diluted accordingly (4:1)
rust inhibitor: I would use the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator
primer: eastwood or duplicolor work fine
paint: go to a dealer or check out subaruwrxparts.com

The front lip of the hood is creased down and theres a slightly bigger dent on the passenger side, I thought you folks might know where I could get a price check on a replacement hood and grill. I assume any Subaru dealer would be able to order the part for me, and pretty much any body shop would be able to get the BRP paint?

Edit: Also, if anyone has a link to a good method for touch up painting I'd love to see that, there are a few scratches and a bit of rust on the rear quarter that I'd like to take care of sooner rather than later.

Go parts shopping at the boneyard. It will be way cheaper than the dealer. Even if you have to have it painted, it will be cheaper. You can make it even cheaper if you do the prep work on the hood before it goes to the sprayer. Don't waste your $ at the dealer.

Good tip. There's a junkyard not too far from me with a big "Subaru Heaven" sign out front. I'll stop in there sometime and see what they can do for me.

After getting the car, the hood was a lot less beat up than I was remembering it, but it still needs to be replaced eventually.

I've driven past that place, but I think I remember reading somewhere that it was only the older Subaru's like the GL's and Brat's and stuff. Check out car-part.com and look for a hood from an impreza outback sport... they're the same as the RS hoods, but they're a lot easier to find.

SGP doesn't ship hoods unfortunately.

Great link! Thanks very much, I'll read through it in more depth tomorrow.

After getting the car out in the sun, the touch up paint might be beyond the scope of my skills/patience. Both car doors have a ring of key scratches around the keyhole, it's like the previous owner was suffering constant caffeine jitters...

Found a site that appears to sell primered Grill and Hood replacements, prices look reasonable (before shipping, haven't looked that far into it): http://www.car-stuff.com/

http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/su...ment24811.html
http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/su...ts0701021.html

The descriptions say "OE Replacement" but I assume it's not actually OEM...anyone have any experience or more information about this site?

dont bother with aftermarket OE replacement parts. They never fit like they should. Find used OEM or bite the bullet and get new OEM.
