Default more newb questions about my ej18

Well, I finally have got most of the problems worked out with my brighton and now i only have one left and some questions, so I will ask them now. The one problem I THINK I have left is a valve that connects to a vacuum line off of the intake. I think it only has a rev limit of 4 grand right now, my brighton didn't come with a tac so I'm not sure, it dies every now and then, at an idle it sputters a bunch, and when I drive it and try to step on the gas a little it bogs out. If anyone could help me identify that problem that would help a ton. ALSO I was curious about adding a cold air, and I've read about using the piping of the cold air and the stock air box, is this a good idea? Also should i get a catback or an axleback for this beastly machine? Any info would be highly appreciated thank you and sorry for the novel.

Thanks
Seth

There should be a vacuum diagram on the underside of your hood or in most repair manuals. Check there. Sounds like your car could use a tune-up. Any CEL's? I'd start with making your car run right before spending $$$ on mods.

Did you fix the vacuum issue and give it a tune up yet? Focus on that first.

sounds like its in Limp Mode. i dont know the specifics of what all the different things are that cause limp mode, but some are No MAF plugged in, or no speedo cable or cluster plugged in (depending on what year, ie cable speedo or electronic)

Well would the vacuum line put it in limp mode?

You never answered if you had a CEL or not. Let's start there. Also, what year 1.8?

What did you "flash" the ECU with? A 97 ECU is not flashable by most methods.

The CEL? Most likely a MAF issue...yours is probably fouled or bad. If so, it will go into limp mode, prevent you from revving past 4k rpm and generally run like ass......everything you describe.
