Just took out my eg33 from my 92 SVX. I'm considering a Honduh radiator with a big ass fan, or something along the lines of that. Post your setups!

a pm I just sent to a local guy who will likely be doing an EG swap within the next 6 months or so:

here's a couple examples of short radiators to fit an EG33:
Image

that FMIC looking thing is actually his radiator. and only goes up to the middle of the bumper. It's a Griffin custom radiator. This guy is down in the cities. I did the wiring for him, and have ridden in it......and it's quite fast.

more pics of his setup:

and the other is a Ron Davis custom radiator:

"It's a 2 & 1/2 inch core, 13 by 22 with 1 and 1/2 inch tanks and is cross flow". This guy is over in Fargo.....and I'll be going over to finish the wiring on it this weekend. I'll try to get some pictures of the setup installed.

I still need to get pics of the ron davis setup. after talking to him about that setup, I would not recommend that company. he sent them relatively simple plans, and they F#$%ed it up twice. the first time they put the intake port in the wrong place, and the second one is entirely the wrong dimensions.

thanks chux. Im really hoping i dont have to go custom route, I'm on a tight budget. Maybe a makeshift setup for the winter and something custom for the spring when the time comes.
when you say fast, do you mean USDM WRX or STI fast?
also, I will be sending my harnesses to you in the near future.

Here's a stg2 STi with the svx swap. 2nd gear start on both cars.

There are a few really fast Stg2 STi's but this is the typical stg2 STi. One of the locals has an '06 STi w/ stg2 and is really fast. It's as fast as my EVO3-16G 8cm swapped Impreza L wagon. I push about 300whp pump gas on my hybrid 2.2L!

hey there...well thats my impreza that chux is showing/telling you about....fuji as well..it took me some time to actually put everything together...the thing you need to know or take time with the most is the radiator. i went back and forth a lot on how to do it. Now i have a better idea of making the Radiator fit but like you im on a budget too. well good luck to your swap you have any questions all three of us can help. you can find us on www.mnsubaru.com

if you want swaps like this...i had to buy everything individually...but if you like...and want...im planning on selling my L...with the svx swap..

also for other things is the power steering lines...you might need to use the svx and also throttle cable and clutch...

im using a stage one ACT clutch pressure plate and it holds fine! the tranny might be a problem. so far mine is holding up but im not sure for how long. other than that....vaccumm.....the engine has a lot of vaccumm problem...at idle unless you get the stage one ecu chip by www.ecutune.com this will make more leanier power and more tuned.

im revving up to 7400rpm now and its a lot smoother. no need to take it up soo high without cams though but the higher revs helps the higher end by far!

how? well with shorter (outback tranny shorter 5th gear) gears and low revs of the 3.3l just doesn't feel good. The motor just wants to jump a few rpm higher to feel complete. and with the stage one chip.. that solves the problem and will help out with the lean low rpm.

FYI you will be addicted to the throttle response on the swap and the power you get on the lower revs.

you actually dont need the stage 3. the stage one is good enough...and with the stage one it'll last your tranny a bit longer than the stage 3.

the tq and hp on the 3.3 with the stage 3 = many broken trannies...

stage one gives you more comfort and daily drivable too but its really up to you.

IMHO, stock ECU is the way to go. with the stuff that ECUtune is doing, the sky is the limit.

also, buy a donor car. they're of an age where rust and other physical things can be a problem, and with the failure rate of the 4EATs......parts SVXs can be had for pretty cheap with some patience.

also, because the parts are pretty unique. you can make a bunch back parting stuff out. the few guys I know who have gone this route have actually made money parting the car out (don't forget the glass!!! the curved stuff is worth it's weight in gold!), also, hard to get stuff to move on forums, ebay is your friend.

and yes, feel free to pm me with any questions (or email, website in sig). EG33 swaps seem to be the #1 most common swap I've worked on, and my #1 recommendation, with the availability of the motors and the potential on "stock" management.

jakeachy. if you're looking for a stock takeoff from another car, take the dimensions I listed to the junkyard and start measuring stuff. also, you might be able to find some good dimensions on RockAuto.com and performanceradiator.com.

just make sure you don't pull a rad from a geo or something.....the EG33 is pretty efficient, and doesn't need anything terribly massive to cool it, but it's still a good sized motor.

and from my quick ride, I'd say dao's imp would run well with an STi. probably similar hp/lb ratio, but waaaayyyyy better torque curve. there really is no replacement for displacement.

thanks chux...and by the way...how you doing? haven't heard or seen you for awhile now...welll....dude...my rod bearing went out last week....swapping it over with fuji's extra eg33 motor...and plus i might be selling my old engine for very cheap because i know that someone will try and to go turbo....and might as well do it with a bad rod bearing instead of wasting time taking a whole engine out..but yes...i will take pictures as soon as i can and post em up on mnsubaru...

so folks...old eg33 engine only 137k miles on it.......100 bucks for the first one to take it...and you can work on it while you have your eg33 swap running...first one to pick it up...

match the trans. whatever that may be. any EJ-series one will bolt up to the EG motor.

Dao. contact Colin (that's his screen name and real name) on MNSubaru. He's the guy in fargo. he's starting with an N/A build with his current motor, but is looking for another to tear apart and pin, sleeve, etc.

he was going to start with a good motor, but one with a bad rod bearing would be perfect. I'll be in the cities a couple times in the next month, and will need to go to fargo to finish his wiring shortly after that, so I may be able to deliver the motor too.

I'm doing good, got projects out the wazooooo. but hanging in there.

my advice is do it right the first time....really....its going to be complicated.....the most frustrating thing for me was time...it took a year and two months to finish the swap.....and try not to rush it...i learned...lol..but goodluck and have fun with the car when its done...

thanks!

what was complicated? it seems the transmission wont use all of the bolt holes with the engine.

yea...it wont....before you put then engine in...make sure the alignment studs are either in or out...if the tranny has it..then you dont need the engine ones...

the complicated thing was the radiator....time after time after time....and other small things...
