Default Mein Swap in Progress!!!...finally

So after two months of sitting my swap has finally gotten underway.

Currently have everything disconnected from motor except tranny (don't have chains for the hoist).

Im swapping to a 07 sti motor and was curious if its possible to keep my RS AC compressor and power steering?

Also wondering the best way to remove the harness? I have whole dash out, but still have the black heater/ac box on the passenger side and it looks like the harness goes into the firewall right behind it. Do i need to disconnect my ac in order to get my wiring harness out?

PS what would you guys think of starting a sticky for SWAP pitfalls?

ie common things that lots of people seem to get stuck on, for example, the tamperproof torx bolt on the airbag controller, or the airbag clips them selves.

If we do it, i think best format would be having one that would be the sticky and be strickly for information, and a seperate non-stickyed thread for requests/suggestions.

Thanks Guys

Use the RS A/C compressor and the complete STi or WRX power steering system. To remove the harness you're going to need to remove everything from the dash including the heater core.

Thanks, I realized that when i was working on it today, shitty part is I can't just discharge the AC in the garage (combo of an environmental conscience and fear of death) and the only shop in pushing range can't do it till monday.

Good news though, got everything disconnected from the motor, so its ready to come out tomorrow if i want. Didn't even have to work to get it separated, it just pulled apart.

I will have to push the car down the block to the shop though, so i think im going to leave the motor in so the tranny has some support in the front and doesn't rip its self off the mounts. Has anyone moved a car with a tranny, but with out an engine?

Also started looking at replacing the fuel pump....where is it?

i found the three fuel lines going under the car at the rear seat, even removed the two covers (1 oval 1 round) from just inside the trunk and i can't see the fuel pump or any way to get at it. Am I going to have to drop my whole rear end to get to it?

Thanks

*you will NOT need to drop the tank to get to it. subarus are easy to work on luckly haha*

The fuel pump is located in the trunk, remove all trunk liner, and its the passenger side Oval Shaped cover past the Spare tire place, remove the cover and then you will see your gas tank and fuel pump, remove that cover and then you are inside the gas tank and have access to the WHOLE Fuel pump assembly and etc.

Hope that helps its easy to work on =D good luck with swap hope i helped some =D

I'll check again tomorrow. Just to double check, you're talkin about the oval on the passenger side that comes off with four phillips screws?

For the torx bolts on the airbag controller I was able to get them off with vice grips and a properly sized screwdriver.

I've finally started putting my sti stuff on the car, started with the fuel pump.

The sti one had a plastic/rubber box over the filter on the end, in addition to the recirculation tube going in to that box. I didn't put these in there because the RS pump assembly didn't have anywhere to attach them.

Thats not going to be a problem is it?

so you re-used the new fuel pump assembly? gas level gauge and all? I just put the sti fuel pump in the rs assembly. I figured the wiring would be different for the 07 compared to 01 gas gauge and it would be best to switch over as little as possible.
