| I have a few questions that I am hoping you guys can help me with. I will put them in order so it is easier to answer and read Anyways I am using an HP G60-235DX Notebook PC. Windows Vista . I am trying to burn files that I downloaded to a or Blue Ray. I am pretty computer saavy (I know how to navigate pretty well and use different programs). Here are the different types of files that I have. I am only able to play these files with VLC media player also. 1) AVI 2) Mpeg 3) DVDRip.Xvid-Maxspeed - Mostly 1 and 3 though I have the following programs that could be candidates for said topic. 1) Windows Media Player 2) Itunes 3) Cyberlink DVD Suite (I have to pay to upgrade to burn Blue ray )4) Quicktime Player Now my question. What program can I use to burn these files onto DVD or Blue Ray? PLEASE HELP! Thanks ![]() |

| You don't want to burn any Blu-ray discs with those files, you'll be throwing away your money. Only use your HD stuff (ie 1080p .MKV) for BD. to burn .AVI etc onto a playable disc use ConvertXtoDVD As for only being able to play the files via VLC, download the k-lite codec pack and you should be good to go with any player (my favorite is DivX) |

| ...and actually if you ever want to burn BD you'll have to buy a HDDVD drive, which usually would come with the free upgrade of Power DVD 9 that plays HD files (both of mine did). Anyways glad to help, take it easy ![]() |

| "DVDRip.Xvid-Maxspeed" -- not actually a file type. Most likely .AVI Maxspeed is the uploader, DVDRip means their source was from a DVD, Xvid is just the codec format used. Make sure you use Peerblock for future downloading. |

| +1 for Matroska (.mkv) containers! They are the way to go. As for burning.. I can't help ya there, I'm going the other direction, converting my entire library to H264 MKV files and storing them on my 3TB server for playback on an XBMC/HTPC. So, if your looking for a way to play back your .avi or .mov or .mkv files on your TV, get something like the "Popcorn Hour" media playback device. It'll play your files still stored on your PCs hard drive, onto the TV. Disks are sooo 2009!! ![]()

| please DONT use codec packs like KLite. they are going to cause more harm than good. What you need is: XviD and DivX playback/encoding: xvid codec: Koepi's Media Development Homepage - Xvid AC3 audio: AC3Filter: AC3Filter | AC3Filter x264 playback/encoding: CoreAVC: CoreAVC 2.0 (for Windows) | CoreCodec for playing back most content, VLC is great because you dont even need those codecs, it has all of its own built in. for playing back HD video though, you really do need CoreAVC, AC3Filter, and a proper media player app like MPC:HomeCinema |
