Figured too many people don't know their chassis codes, so here is a master list.

The G means impreza.

The C means old style sedan.
The M means old style coupe.
The F means old style wagon.
The D means new style sedan.
The G means new style wagon.

The A means new style EJ20T.
The B means new style EJ25T.
The 8 means old style EJ20T.
The 6 means 2.5 RS.
The 4 means 2.2.
The 2 means 1.8.

If there are any I missed LMK and I will add them. And does anyone know if the OBS is the same as an RS wagon, or has its own code? And if anyone knows the codes for other subies, feel free to post them.

Hopefully this will get stickied and will help people. It seems like the first real FAQ in here. With some luck, other people will start similar threads on other topics so we can have this section filled with good references for all the common questions.

nice job man. Question:

was it the 22b that was GC8? and any other cars that had chassis codes GC8? now is it just a nickname?
For the GC, the WRX and STi had the same engine code so all WRX's and STi's and special models should be GC8 assuming they are a sedan.

98-99 there was only a coupe RS, then 00-01 there is a coupe and sedan, 02-04 there is the RS sedan and a TS wagon, and for 05 there is an RS sedan and wagon. In 06 there is no longer an RS.

Good question, but I would assume no because it is just a face lift and they didn't change it in '04 when they went from the bug-eyes. But the WRX may have a different engine code since it now has the 2.5L. Be nice to find out for sure.

Heres a fluke for you guys. MY00 RS sedan has a model code on the engine vin plate of GM6.... one of those is not quite right... :blowingup

When I get home, Im going to check this... only other idea that comes to mind is confusing it with my old impreza L... but that wouldnt work either... It was a coupe, but not a 2.5L
